Requiring no external power supply, yielding superb results, infinitely extendable (he’s tall), and with low overheads (he’s tall), who or what else could we possibly be describing but our Baron of Bolt, ‘Swift Nick’ Bamford?! This month the ‘Scampering Salesman’ has been at it again, swapping gardeners’ orders for starter’s orders at the Brighton Marathon

Like Black Box, Mr Bamford has been pursuing and promoting his Bright-on time with dedication, ample euro-beats, and no little panache. Months of careful planning and preparation have gone into his tilt at this supersonic seaside striding sportive. But, as Nick has been keen to stress, it’s not all about him.

Noble as the cause of self-improvement is, Nick has dedicated his efforts to the raising of funds for charity! Charging through Brighton like a lithe Ian Botham (if Botham is ‘Beefy’, Bamford is ‘Biltong’) Nick was sustained in part by the superb cash total that his run has generated.

A whopping £1,525 has been donated in honour of our chariot of charity. And the particular choice of charity is fitting, given the healing mental space that running can confer. In Nick’s own words:

‘I’m raising money for Mind because its important that everyone has access to mental health support whenever they need it, and to acknowledge all the work they have done to promote mental health awareness during recent times, especially since the lockdowns.’

Amen to that. It goes without saying that we’re massively proud of Nick for all of this, and his stellar time of 3 hrs 32 mins 23 seconds. If you are in the giving vein his justgiving page remains open – leg it over there now!
