That might sound like damning with faint praise but it’s not meant to. There’s something intangibly marvellous about nice stuff. Why do we like it? Perhaps because it’s so pleasing to see the physical realisation of a good idea. A concept has taken shape. When something is great to look at or experience it’s partly because you can literally see a human thought. Enough! On with the show!

Across eight carefully curated gardening ‘sectors’ Glee brings together the finest ideas in horticultural activities and gardening lifestyle. For us the absolute pips are the dedicated arenas for landscaping, garden care, and plants. No less intriguing however are zones devoted to al fresco entertaining, al fresco cooking and dining, al fresco homewares, mixed fresco retail innovations, and our go wherever-they-damn-well-please-fresco animal companions, that’s right; pets.

Much of what is on show is intended to woo garden centres and stores and there’s a quietly fascinating side to that too. You get to see manufacturers’ best efforts at anticipating new trends, their take on how best to appeal to the public, and previews of many, many products that are still in the pipeline. The manufacturers come in all shapes and sizes. They range from cottage-industry, to artisan, and all the way up to global players, which means there’s an excellent mix of individual brilliance and high-tech development to enjoy.
